Spring Training Openers

Spring training openers just 3 days, 20 hours away the first 3 games will be played on March 2, 2010. The teams playing each other are the Pirates vs. the Manatees at 12:05 pm, the Tigers vs. the Mocs at 1:05 pm, and the Braves vs. the Mets at 1:10 pm. It’s the start of something that a lot of people have been looking forward to.

As for the Phillies they will have to wait 5 days, 20 hours to have their first spring training game on March 4, 2010. They will be playing the defending 2009 World Series Champions the New York Yankees. For the Phillies this is the start of something that Ryan Howard calls "unfinished business". As for the Yankees it’s the start of trying to win another championship. "Winning is a great feeling and when you win it makes you wanna keep winning and never lose that feeling" said Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira. For any team that's really what it’s all about. Phillies manager said this on February 23, 2010 "Were gonna win, were gonna win again because we have a good group of guys in this club house that wants and knows how to win. I'm looking forward to riding down broad street again and maybe even for the next 2-3 years. Let’s go get it". As you can see the Phillies are ready for the 2010 season to get underway just as much as the Yankees or any other team.

Pitchers and Catchers.

So the 2010 season is almost right around the corner, well not exactly. If I was to tell you that baseball season was here on the East Coast it would be a lie. Right now as I speak some places such as Pennsylvania, D.C., New York, and some more states are getting pounded with 20 or more inches of snow. But in Clearwater, FL pitchers and catchers are getting ready for a new season and ready to step their game up.

With pitchers and catchers just 6 days and 21 hours away to report to Clearwater some are going to be ready to have a bounce back year and others are just going to try to stay on top of their game and some try to improve their game. But this year there is going to be a lot of new pitchers face’s in some ball clubs and others the same old faces. The big time names this year for Spring Training 2010 "Pitchers and Catchers" are Pitcher (John Lackey)- Red Sox, Pitcher (Javier Vazquez)- Yankees, Pitcher (Ben Sheets)- A's, Pitcher (Roy Halladay)- Phillies, and Pitcher (Cliff Lee)- Mariners. All these names were the big time pickups and trades during 2009-2010 offseason and will try to help their new ball club make it back to the postseason or just help them make it to the postseason. The rest of the big time names are Roylas 2009 AL CY Young Award Winner (Zack Greinke), Giants 2008 and 2009 NL CY Young Award Winner (Tim Lincecum), Twins 2009 AL MVP Catcher (Joe Mauer), Cardinals two big guns (Chris Carpenter and Adam Wainwright), and Rangers (Scott Feldman). Most of these guys have been in the postseason but for some it’s their goal to make it to the postseason and have a great year. For Lincecum and Feldman that's their goal this year to make it to the postseason, after last year being oh so close to the playoffs I'm sure there after revenge. For Halladay who is a new member of the Phillies it’s been his dream to be in the postseason and to make it to the World Series and with this team they should have no problem. As for Cliff Lee I'm sure he didn't want to leave Philadelphia but I'm sure the people and fans in Settle will love him and he will be playing with a bunch of good guys. For Sheets, Vazquez, and Lackey all new members of a new team I'm sure their goal is to have a great year and make it to the postseason. Gerinke, Carpenter, Wainwright, and Mauer their goals are probably the same but for Carpenter and Wainwright it's more than that. Last year these 2 guys had a shot of winning the NL CY Young but didn't come close from taken it away from the former CY Young Award winner Tim Lincecum and I'm sure those 2 guys will look to have a great year and put themselves in the history books.

It feels like yesterday I was watching the 2009 World Series come to an end and saying to myself "I can't wait till next year" and it's almost that time of year to smell that fresh spring air, hear the sound of the crowd singing "HIGH HOPES", tail gating in the parking lot, drinking with your buddies down the shore watching the game, and most of all time to do fantasy baseball. I’m so ready for the 2010 season.

This is Beyond the start of Spring Training 2K10, this is Beyond Baseball.
