HAPPY HAMEL-DAY!!!

After Roy Halladay making his Phillies day view on Monday, shutting down the Nats bats only giving up 1 run and struck out 9 in 7 innings of work it was now time to see what Cole Hamels could do as the Phillies number two pitcher. The Phillies would get an early lead with a double play ball with no outs and coming in to score was Rollins making it a 1-0 Phillies lead, moving over to third was Placido. He would later score on a wild pitch to make it a 2-0 Phils lead. Later in the 3rd inning Ian Desmond would hit a solo shot off of Hamels to make it 2-1 game. With the game tied at 2, Hamels would do it yourself hitting driving in a RBI single to put the Phils up by one. In the 5th inning with one man on for Ryan Howard and he would go deep by hitting a 2 run home run to put his team up 6-3. After 5 strong innings Cole Hamels night would be done by pitching 5 innings, giving up 5 hits, 2 earn runs, 4 walks, 5 strikeouts, and throwing 103 pitches. In the top of the 9th Howard would hit an RBI double and that would basically close up the game. Coming in to close the game was Ryan Madson, he would get save number (1), and Howard went 2-5 with a HR (2) on the year and 3 RBI's on the night.

If you watched tonight’s game you have to be pretty happy with the way Hamels pitched. He looked like he had his control under control and pitched well besides having 5 walks. He did give up a home run but he worked around that and did his job. He had 5 strikeouts in 5 innings and that's not too bad. Like I said before he did have 5 walks which he may need to work on but I mean it’s early in the year and his arm isn't fully stretched out. Also the umps strike zone wasn't that good but none the less he does pick up win number (1) on the year, and a win is a win! So we hope Hamels will be a little bit better next time around. The Phillies will wrap up this series tomorrow, game start is at 4:35 p.m. Pitching the for the Phillies will be the young Kyle Kendrick ERA 3.42 in 2009 and pitching for the Nats will be Craig Stammen ERA 5.11 in 2009. Phillies win by a score of 8-4, Goodnight everyone.
